Position Summary: Safely and efficiently transport students and authorized personnel to and from off-site venues for activities ranging from class field trips to community outreach and performances. Transportation needs may be for any and all of the Texas Center for Arts + Academics entities (Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, Texas Boys Choir, Texas School of the Arts, and Texas Dance Conservatory).

Position Summary:The Special Education Aide will provide physical and instructional support to students with disabilities. They will assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, instructional programs, and additional duties focused on student success. The Aide will work under general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the certified teacher.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist teacher with instructional materials and administrative records
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Inventory, care for, and maintain educational materials and equipment
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
  • Help manage behavior of students, including intervention during crisis situations and protecting students during disruptive or dangerous student behavior
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs
  • Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus/van for fieldtrips, and recess duty
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain emotional control in stressful situations
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
Essential Job Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work with special needs children, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively
  • Preferred: Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment required by TEA
  • Must have or be willing to receive training in CPI, Autism, and Behavior Intervention
  • Physical Requirements: ability to carry up to 25 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs.; valid driver license
