Although I issued all students a textbook and make reading assignments, I remind students that the book is a reference and it reinforces the lessons from class.  The student doesn’t need to bring the book every day, only on the days that I indicate.  I expect the students to take notes when I lecture.

If your student is absent from my class, he or she needs to come to tutoring after school on Tuesdays.   This is especially important if the student is in physics. “I was absent, therefore I didn’t get/do the assignment”, will not be an excuse to get out of the assignment. If the student has missed class, then he or she is expected to get the assignment from the crate in my room. Failure to do so could result in after school homework detention.  If a student misses a test he or she is expected to make it up on their own time within a week of returning. They shouldn’t miss any more class time for make-up work.   Late work receives a maximum of 50.

I also offer online tutoring on Sunday night starting at 7PM.  If you want to participate; I need your email address so I can send you an invitation.

I try to give at least two tests each six weeks.  The number of daily assignments will vary with the subject and grade level. Tests count for 50% of the six weeks grade and daily work/homework counts for 50%. Labs and quizzes are daily work.  The students can correct daily work which has a failing grade for a maximum grade of 70.

I will do my best to keep this site updated for you.  If I have to change my lesson plan at the last minute, then the students are expected to follow what I gave them in class.

Students sometimes have the idea that science is too hard and they give up easily.  I want to make it fun for them, but I tell them that we can’t do the fun until we have done the not so fun part.  Biology is very interesting, but can be difficult.  The concepts of chemistry are usually new to them and they have to concentrate more to understand, not memorize.  Physics challenges the students mathematically.
